Audible Assault's 2-Year Anniversary in Review

Discovery of an Afterlife performs live at Joe’s Grotto Feb 9, 2019

On Saturday February 9, 2019 we made our second appearance at Audible Assault Entertainment’s annual anniversary party and had a fantastic time rocking out and partying with so many great local bands.

We were the last band to play and really appreciate everyone staying so late to watch our set and for singing our songs so loudly! Words cannot describe how magical it is to hear you all sing the ending to ‘The Meadow’, a powerful song about the suicide of a close friend. This also marked the first time ever we didn’t end our set with this song because the crowd insisted we play an encore so we ended up ending with ‘A Tragedy Until We Forget’, an old classic DoaA jam.

Huge congratulations to the folks at Audible Assault Entertainment for making it another year around the sun. Not at all surprised that they’re still around with the way they treat their bands, but super happy for them nonetheless. And of course a huge thank you to them for asking us to play their 2-Year Anniversary Party! If you’re a local band in Phoenix Arizona this is THE production company to go to when you want to start playing shows.

Friday the 13th at the Starlite Lounge in Review - Thank You Soundphoria

For Friday the 13th we had the pleasure of sharing the Starlite Lounge stage in Glendale with some truly amazing talent. It was a great turnout even for a Friday and we had an absolute blast performing one of our longest sets yet. Thank you to everyone that was able to make it out and especially to our friend Jared for catching us after our set and sharing his story. If you're reading this, 'The Meadow' is yours buddy and thanks for being there to sing along!

Thank you to all the absolutely amazing bands that came together to put on a night of good vibes and great tunes! I was completely blown away by Ryan, the singer/guitarist for 3 Seconds More, guy can sing just as well as he can shred.

We've played with Mission G before and they get even better and better each time we do. Johnny, singer/guitarist for Mission G, always has hilarious banter and is another guy who can sing and shred amazingly.

By the time Malo de Dentro went on it was pretty late in the night and the crowd had thinned out a little but they played like there was a stadium of people watching. Excellent performance and they were the only band that started an epic spontaneous mosh pit!

Be sure to show these awesome bands some love by clicking their names below!

PantsOnFire - Mistakes We Make (Betrayal)

Everybody lies. What shade of 'good' or 'bad' it is ultimately depends on where you're standing and what angle you're observing it from.

What is a Lie?

According to Webster a white lie is 'A lie about a small or unimportant matter that someone tells to avoid hurting another person.'

For example, you might tell someone you love that you really enjoy that new song their band just released and that you think it's really going to be their breakout hit even though their music really isn't your thing and the song kind of sounds like every other one they've shown you so far.

You love them and want to support their passion though, and I mean certain parts are kind of catchy so you give them words of encouragement in the form of a harmless and helpful white lie.

Other lies get a little more complicated. Whether we like to admit it or not, it feels good to fit in. Fitting in usually comes with peer recognition, love, safety, and a myriad of other feelings we crave as biological, social creatures. We like feeling like we're a part of something, something more than us.

A History of Lying

For our ancestors, being distinguishably similar to each other was literally a matter of life and death. They had to decide very quickly whether the creature in front of them was friend or foe to stay out of danger and keep on living. The surest way to fit into a new group that you know very little about is to lie.

Depending on your personal moral compass and intention behind the lie, it can end up benefiting you and the new group you're trying to assimilate into. Lying is at the heart of the adage 'fake it until you make it.'

Pants On Fire

The lyrics for the first single off of Mistakes We Make are about how we all lie about things sometimes, whether it's to fit in, to keep from hurting someone's feelings, for malicious intentions, and countless other reasons. For most people, excessive or unnecessary lying will create feelings of guilt and internal conflict.

However, certain people are able to compulsively and manipulatively lie on a constant basis to get what they want because they are incapable of empathy - incapable of seeing that their lies hurt others. Since moving to Arizona I've come into contact with at least two people like this and I'm sure I've met countless more without even realizing it.

PantsOnFire is about how, because we all engage in this game of lying, we create the conditions to allow these psychopaths to climb the social ladder and do things like become President of the United States. Instead of calling these people out on their lies, we let them get away with it for fear someone will call us out on our own lies.

It's important to understand that as individuals we are unable to change these people. The best we can do is recognize them and remove them from our social circles. Until every single person on earth refuses to accept their behavior they will continue to do it again and again and again.

PantsOnFire is now available on itunes, spotify, amazon, youtube, and all other major music streaming services!

Trust
Treasure so easily broken
weight and worth intangible
Sometimes repair is not an option
burn it down and build anew
A broken cup will never be as strong as it once was
Reassemble all the shards and the substance will seep through

But that's not what we came for
What's all this wasting time?
No, that's not what we stand for
So this is where we say goodbye

I'm only hoping for this
We're only coping with it
They're only losing what was-
Someone stop me now!
The price they pay to fit in
we're paying taxes on sin
With all these secrets tell me
how do you know who you are?

Every time you lied to me I would look the other way
Who am I to judge a fiend?
Every time you lied to them
another fly caught in your web
Deep inside do you know you're sick?
I know the world played a part
but you can't just blame them
Every time you lied to me I'd just look the other way
I've got my own insecurities
and I can't save you if I can't save me

But that's not what we came for
What's all this wasting time?
No, that's not what we stand for
So this is where we say goodbye

I'm only hoping for this
We're only coping with it
They're only losing what was-
 Someone stop me now!
The price they pay to fit in
we're paying taxes on sin
With all these secrets tell me
how do you know who you are?

Let it burn!
Let it burn!

How could you do this?
How could you hurt someone who gave you everything?
How could you burn the trust of everyone
as if it's someone else's blame?
There are no monsters under beds
or in the closets of your home
They walk the streets in skins and skeletons,
like people you may know.
I should have known it anyways
you can't trust anyone these days
My heart goes out to the ones so deep
they'll never get out!
These strings they are pulling you down!

I'm only hoping for this
We're only coping with it
They're only losing what was-
 Someone stop me now!
The price they pay to fit in
we’re paying taxes on sin
With all these secrets tell me
how do you know who you are?

This is not my problem anymore
It's not my fault if you get hurt
It’s not my problem anymore
It's not my fault if you get hurt

Audible Assault Entertainment's 1 Year Anniversary Show Thank You!

On Saturday night we had the pleasure of playing with some absolutely amazing bands over at Joe's Grotto in Nothern Phoenix for Audible Assault Entertainment's Official 1 Year Anniversary Show. There was cake, pizza, Chi-Town Dogz, vape life with Vape Gravy and Mt Baker Vapor, and amazing music at an amazing venue. This was an especially special show for me because my mom and younger brother came all the way from Reno, NV just to see Discovery of an Afterlife for the first time! Furthermore, Leon's parents decided to spend their ANNIVERSARY rocking out with us at this show which made it approximately 1283947329847 times better.

A HUGE congratulations to Audible Assault Entertainment on turning a year old and a very special thank you to Steph over there for thinking of us when putting together the lineup for this fantastic occasion! We really appreciate that whether you're a small local band at your first show or a national headlining act she will treat you with the same amount of respect and make sure you are well-taken care of. We obviously don't do this for the money but it is nice to know that when working with Steph you won't have to worry about hunting someone down at the end of the night to get paid!

For those not familiar with the venue, Joe's Grotto has an awesome little front area with convenient bar access for when you need a little fresh air in between sets. This is where smokers often congregate for obvious reasons so, of course, the good folks from Vape Gravy and Mt Baker Vapor were hanging out converting smokers to vaping and hooking it up with sweet deals on delicious vape juice flavors.

Chi-Town Dogz provided delicious dogz for hungry patrons during the show

For everybody that didn't make it there in time to get in on the pizza and cake action there was Chi-Town Dogz offering unique and delicious hot dog creations for sale out in front of the venue. I was sporting my fabulous Ron Burgundy inspired outfit so opted just to get a boring old regular hot dog (which was delicious) but Conner got the 'Fire Chi PIzza Dog' and said it tastes just like a pizza! Stewart, the owner, offers catering via his Chicago style food truck (or Chicago style FJ cruiser in his case) and is planning on opening a physical location in Phoenix very soon so for our foodie fans be sure to check him out on Facebook and Instagram to see the full menu and maybe drop by and try one if you're in the area. Tell him Discovery of an Afterlife sent you!

A huge thank you to Joe and to the staff of Joe's Grotto. When I first moved to Phoenix this was the first venue I ever went to a show at and I immediately fell in love with the aquatic theme and decor. We absolutely love playing here and can't wait for our next chance to come back again. Thank you to Soundphoria for promoting the show and the Phoenix local music scene in general! And of course thank you thank you thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and came out to support us and to all you beautiful people who bought something from or even just stopped by our merch booth. We're always really amazed at the turnout for our shows and they seem to just keep getting bigger and bigger, and for that we are deeply and forever appreciative.

Stay tuned for more great shows and brand new music from Discovery of an Afterlife in 2018!
